Thirty-five years ago, as part of a college assignment, Gary Herion began a ten-year-long project helping his grandfather write his autobiography. When it came to family roots, he was surprised how little his grandfather knew.
In the years that followed, Gary’s father, John C. Herion, learned that many Herions here in America share a similar ignorance. Thus began his own two-decades-long project tracking down long-lost genealogical information, consulting U.S. census records, passenger logs from 19th-century ships bringing immigrants to America, and municipal and church records from Europe dating back almost half a millennium.
Now, father and son have combined their efforts and the fruits of their research to trace their family roots back to medieval Europe, providing not only colorful information about their own ancestors but also a resource for others interested in Herion family history.
