Neither in youth, middle age, nor in my later years have I given much thought as to what I would be doing in old age. My philosophy has always been to deal with what is, both the good and the bad, and make of it the best I could.
It’s been a long journey—I was born in Northern Virginia on April 1, 1918, and lived there for twenty-eight years, followed by twenty-two years in Southern Maryland; then in 1968, I moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where I still live.
Needing to strike a balance between the required and the optional, I turned, more and more, to poetry, which has brought me to this collection, Sundries. In this volume I deal with both positives and negatives (or as we Unitarian Universalists say, “joys and concerns”). I hope you will find it worthwhile.
