Eloise Rives Renegar's first book, Tick-Tock, The Chickens' Clock, is "based on a real story that happened a long time ago." This children's book, with original watercolor illustrations by Randy McGuirt, recounts the tale of a little girl who, with her older sister, rescues an old grandfather clock from the barn where chickens are laying their eggs in it. The little girl helps provide new nests for the chickens, and the clock is restored to say "tick, tock" as it did originally.

In real life, Mary, the little girl in the book, grew up to become an elementary school teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina, for over forty years. "Today, the real clock is still ticking," says Mrs. Renegar, who lives today in nearby Monroe.
