How do we cope during and after a divorce? Coping mechanisms are as unique as we are, in their benefits. Some of us cry on the shoulders of friends or therapists, some immediately go to a new man or woman to prop the ego or salve the wounds, and some in desperation lean on alcohol or drugs. One of my coping mechanisms was to try to write out in poetry and prose my feelings of betrayal and abandonment. All the anguish and despair I could never verbalize in the marriage. Perhaps some of my words can help you find your emotional voice, and with relief know there are others of us with similar feelings and experiences. Eventually life will have a brighter glow and be even more fulfilling. Again we will grow and flourish with a new dream, and a song to sing.
