Lem Dodd was a sad sack – born into a situation that left him on his own at an early age. Unmotivated to study, he could not seem to graduate from the first grade. As he grew up, he found a life of petty crime could land him in jail, which was warmer than the cold outside in the winter. He floundered around in life, taking odd jobs, until he met the love of his life. She turned his life around and made him see how beautiful it could be. Regardless of his poor upbringing, Lem had a good heart.

Lem’s classmate Freddy Nash was born with all the advantages – a loving family, and the resources he needed to do well in school. He married his sweetheart, graduated from medical school, and had a nice family. Freddy had been drawn to Lem, who lived a life so different from his own, and when they both were adults, their paths crossed again.

Rags to Riches is a story about how two very different people, from very different life situations, can share a common bond of friendship.
