Consultation
Pre-project Consultation : Chapel Hill Press offers authors a free, half-hour
consultation to review your project so that we can prepare specifications and
a pre-project estimate. If you are not within driving distance of our offices,
we can discuss your publishing project over the phone.
To arrange a free, half-hour Pre-project Consultation on
your book, please call Chapel Hill Press at (919) 942-8389
or e-mail us at publisher@chapelhillpress.com .
Whether your Pre-project Consultation takes place in person
or over the phone, our editorial and production teams will
need to see your manuscript in order to prepare project specifications
and give you a realistic pre-project cost estimate.
Please bring in or mail, as appropriate, both a paper copy
and Microsoft Word file(s) (on 3.25" floppy disk or CD) of
your completed manuscript (or as much of it as you have written
and a reasonably accurate estimate of how much you have left
to write). Our address is:
Chapel Hill Press, Inc.
1829 East Franklin Street, Suite
300A
Chapel Hill , NC 27514.
You may also e-mail your Microsoft Word file(s) to publisher@chapelhillpress.com .
Note : If your manuscript is typewritten (or not in Microsoft
Word), don't despair. We can arrange for it to be converted
into the appropriate digital format, which virtually all
publishers use for editing, typesetting, and layout.
Our pre-project estimates are not contractually binding.
If you decide to work with Chapel Hill Press, we will send
you a contract that reflects the specifications of your book
project.
Should you decide not to work with Chapel Hill Press, you
may send us a stamped, self-addressed envelope for return
of your manuscript materials, or, after a reasonable time
period, we will destroy them.
Project Consultations : Once you have decided to work with
Chapel Hill Press on your publication project, we will begin
a series of Project Consultations (either telephonic or in
person), each of which coincides with a major project milestone:
- Contract Signing : We review the project specifications
with you, go over the contractual terms and conditions,
and, upon contract signing, receive your first payment
(fifty percent of the total contracted amount). At this
point, you also turn over to us your final manuscript,
as well as any photograph(s), image(s) and/or other illustration(s)
that you would like to be incorporated in the cover design
and/or body of the work and for which you own or obtain
publication rights (for details, see the "Illustrations" service
description). These materials enable us to begin the editorial
and book-design processes.
- Design and Editorial Reviews :
We review with you sample interior- (typography and layout)
and cover-design concepts generated by our designers. Then,
based on your feedback and preferences, we agree on the
final designs that will be used to produce your book (for
more details, see the "Layout Design" and "Cover Design" descriptions).
We also review with you the editor's markup of your manuscript,
including any comments or suggestions the editor has made,
and you decide which of the suggested changes you will
accept and which you won't (for details, see the "Content
Editing" and "Copyediting" descriptions).
Note : Occasionally, due to unavoidable
differences between our designers' and editors' respective
workflow schedules, the Design Review and Editorial Review
may be held separately.
- Pre-press Proof : This
is the final consultation before your project goes to
press and then to the bindery, finally emerging as a completed
book. At this consultation, you review and sign-off on
the pre-press proof, which shows the finalized version
of all of your book's pages, and make your second project
payment (twenty-five percent of the total contracted
amount, with the remaining twenty-five-percent balance
due upon receipt of the completed books).
Should you desire, additional Project Consultations (e.g.,
on marketing your book or on converting it to a book-on-tape)
can also be accommodated. |
